Couple Wins $4.9M Against Employer's Insurance Company

A Florida jury awarded a driver and his wife $4.9 million against his employer’s insurance company following an accident.

Michael Gamsen was rear-ended while driving a company van in 2003. Gamsen worked as a respiratory therapist for Hollywood Medical Supply at the time of the accident. Following the collision, Gamsen had severe back pain which was worsened by an unavailing surgery in 2004.

Murray Kasten, the driver of the other car involved, was underinsured, resulting in State Farm Fire and Casualty providing uninsured motorist coverage.

The verdict, which came exactly six years after the accident, awarded Gamsen almost $4.1 million for his medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering; his Wife was also awarded $800,000.
